Enfold, Unearthing Her Layers 2024
“Enfold: unearthing Her layers”, a solo exhibition by Christine Jacobs. This body of work explores the profound interconnectedness between nature and human life, where the landscape and all its inhabitants - both human and animal, are nurturers and active participants in our shared existences. Created through the ancient technique of felting, Christine Jacobs sculptures use wool to embody the earth’s softness, protection and nurturing qualities. The tactile nature of wool evokes a sense of nostalgia and place, inviting viewers to reconnect with the land’s grounding and all-encompassing presence.
Drawing forms the heart of this exploration, with fluid, layered and gestural marks that map the rhythms of life within the landscape. These drawings document the traces left behind by time, action and memory, revealing the ongoing dialogue between humans and earth. Each mark illuminates the reciprocal relationship between land and inhabitants, where the earth’s abundance nurtures both survival and meaning.
